Leighton Moss RSPB Bird Sanctuary
Just a short 20 min drive from The New Yealand is the RSPB – Leighton Moss, Leighton Moss, Storrs Lane, Silverdale, LA5 0JW. Tel: 01524 801601
Leighton Moss boasts the largest reed bed in North West England and is home to a wide range of spectacular wildlife including Otters, Bearded Tits, Marsh Harriers, Egrets and Red Deer. With jaw dropping scenery it’s a great place to explore.
Levens Hall
Located at the gateway to the Lake District National Park, 5 miles south of Kendal, Cumbria, Levens Hall has grown from a stark, imposing Pele Tower built c1250-1300, into a warm and welcoming family home. We invite you to marvel at this beautiful privately-owned house and gardens, home to the world’s oldest topiary gardens and centre of a thriving 9,500-acre agricultural estate which provides much of the produce used in Levens Kitchen.
Carnforth Train Station

This award winning Heritage centre opened in 2003 after an extensive restoration programme and is located within the busy working station. The Heritage Centre is housed in the beautifully restored historic buildings and offers visitors a wealth of attractive facilities and a fascinating range of exhibitions.
Cinderbarrow Miniature Railway
Cinderbarrow Minature Railway is a fantastic little railway which runs around the picnic site at Cinderbarrow, Tarn Lane, near Yealand Redmayne, Lancashire. The railway is open to the public for rides on Sundays and bank holidays throughout the summer, as well as a special event on Halloween (more details below).
Our members range from young to old and while many are highly experienced professional engineers, some are new to the hobby and learning their skills from the more experienced members, while others just enjoy operating the railway and giving pleasure to the many children and members of the public who visit us.
The Lake District
Just a short 20 min drive from The New Inn Yealand and you arrive in The Lake District. With jaw-dropping scenery it’s a great place to explore. Head into Windermere and take a ride on the Lake District Steamers, walk the hills in Coniston or head to the Market towns such as Kendal and Keswick and visit the traditional inns, shops and tearooms.
Arnside and Silverdale
This extraordinary place is famous for its amazing wildlife, stunning scenery, and superb walks. From the simple beauty of the lady’s-slipper orchid to the shining sands of Morecambe Bay, the area is simply awe-inspiring. Stunning limestone pavements, ancient woodlands, intimate orchards and meadows and an impressive coastline make Arnside & Silverdale Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty one of England’s finest landscapes.
Sizergh Castle
Sizergh Castle is a beautiful medieval house. This imposing house stands proud at the gateway to the Lake District. Its rich and beautiful garden includes a pond, lake, a national collection of hardy ferns and a superb limestone rock garden. Still lived in by the Strickland family, Sizergh has many tales to tell and certainly feels lived in, with centuries-old portraits and fine furniture sitting alongside modern family photographs.
Yorkshire Dales
The Yorkshire Dales are right on our doorstep and are home to a range of fantastic scenery with so much to do. Head to Malham Village and visit Gordale Scar and its waterfalls, or even closer to home are the Ingleton falls. There are plenty of famous breweries to visit such as The Black Sheep brewery, Timothy Taylor or The Great Yorkshire Brewery. or visit the Wensleydale Creamery. Packed with bustling Market towns, your day is set to be a busy one.
